TUESDAY 12th MAY 2026, 7.30PM

We are pleased to welcome Graham Hey to The Order of the Magi in Manchester for an entertaining and insightful lecture on comedy magic and mentalism.

Graham’s background is firmly rooted in comedy. During the 1990s, he worked as a writer for the BBC, ITV and Channel 4, contributing to shows featuring well known names such as Russ Abbott, Hale and Pace, and Griff Rhys Jones. Encouraged to try stand up himself, he began incorporating magic into his act, creating a distinctive blend of comedy and magical performance that has served him throughout his career.

He later became co owner of magicseen magazine, helping to shape one of the UK’s most recognised magic publications over a 20 year period. Alongside this, he performed his comedy mentalism on major cruise lines including Princess and Celebrity, refining material that is both practical and highly entertaining.

Graham’s creations have been used by a wide range of professional performers, including Mike McClean, Chris Dugdale, Chris Cox, Rafael Benatar, Sean Alexander, and Mel Mellers, among many others. His material is known for its strong visual impact, commercial appeal, and straightforward handling.

This lecture will feature a range of visual gags, close up and stand up magic, along with Graham’s trademark “funmentalism”. Expect practical ideas, workable routines, and plenty of thinking that can be applied directly to real world performance.

TUESDAY 23rd June 2026. 7.30PM

We are pleased to welcome Oliver Tabor to The Order of the Magi in Manchester for a lecture focused on one of the most important aspects of any performance – how you begin and how you finish.

This lecture explores strong opening effects and memorable closing routines, along with the thinking behind them. Oliver will share a range of material suitable for close-up, parlour, stage, and mentalism, all drawn from his professional working repertoire.

Each year, Blackpool attracts thousands of magicians from across the globe, showcasing the very latest in magic, from new releases and innovative ideas to lectures, performances, and competitions. It’s a major highlight in the magic calendar, and this evening gives members the chance to bring a little of that excitement back to Manchester.

If you attended, you are encouraged to perform and demonstrate the new material you picked up, share your favourite moments, and pass on any useful insights. It’s a great way to see how new effects look in performance and to hear honest thoughts from fellow magicians.

If you were unable to make it to Blackpool this year, this is the next best thing. Come along, catch up on the highlights, hear the stories, and see some of the latest tricks and ideas being performed up close.

A lively and always popular club night, filled with fresh material, discussion, and inspiration.

MARCH 2027

LECTURE: ADRIAN SULLIVAN
The Master of Mystery presents Miracles for Close-Up, Parlour & Stage…

TUESDAY 9th MARCH 2027, 7.30PM

We are pleased to welcome Magi member and Past President back to the lecture platform at The Order of the Magi in Manchester for an evening packed with practical magic across a range of performance styles.

Adrian is well known within the magic community for creating strong, commercial effects such as “Just Think” and “Eliminator”, along with many other routines used by working magicians. His material is designed with real world performance in mind, making it both accessible and highly effective.

During this lecture, Adrian will share a selection of magic suitable for close-up, parlour, and stage settings. Drawing on decades of performing experience, he offers insight into what works in front of an audience, with an emphasis on clarity, structure, and presentation.

His approach is to keep methods as simple and direct as possible, allowing performers to focus on engaging and entertaining their audience. Throughout the evening, you can expect a mix of performance, explanation, and practical thinking that can be applied immediately.

This is a lecture aimed at magicians looking for strong, usable material along with ideas that can enhance their overall performance.

Visitors are very welcome. Tickets are £10 per person when booked online in advance (booking link coming soon), or £15 on the night.

ORDER OF MAGI AGM

TUESDAY 23rd MARCH 2027, 7.30PM

The Annual General Meeting of The Order of the Magi in Manchester, which is strictly open to members only.

The AGM is an important part of the club calendar, giving members the opportunity to review the past year and help shape the direction of the Society moving forward. Key discussions will include the election of the committee, planning of future events, and the overall structure of the upcoming magical year.

While more formal than our usual meetings, the AGM plays a vital role in ensuring the continued growth and success of the Society. All members are encouraged to attend, take part in discussions, and have their say on the future of the club.

Following the meeting, members are welcome to continue the evening more informally with drinks at the bar and the usual relaxed conversation.
